VANITY FAIR

In this bold and wickedly funny adaptation, Becky Sharp and Amelia Sedley are school friends who couldn’t be more different: Becky is a cunning, sharp, and ambitious girl who knows how to claw her way to the top, and Amelia is a well-intentioned, simple, and naïve girl who wants everyone to be happy. So, Becky is “bad” and Amelia is “good” – but when the wheel of fortune turns, morality becomes a lot more complicated.

Vanity Fair sees both girls both grow up in London as the Napoleonic War rages, trying in their own ways to snatch up love, stability, and success in a patriarchal world that punishes them at every step. At the end of this “dead-serious romp,” all options are exhausted and no one wins. But who are we to judge?
