a blackbox take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream

In this playful retelling of a well-loved text, we reimagined the fairies as echoes and shadows that inhabit theatrical spaces, finding the ways that magic interacts with our real daily lives.

We sought to embrace the bumbling earnesty of the lovers by finding the truth in their relationships, particularly between Helena and Demetrius. We also amplified the fast-paced comedy of the Clowns by finding moments of improvisation to translate old jokes for new audiences.
